New York, September 12, 2007
I am very pleased to welcome to GEI the new Consul General of Italy in New York, Minister Francesco Maria Talò, who I had the pleasure of meeting when he was in New York with Amb. Fulci at the time of the great and successful battle to maintain Italy’s status at the UN.
Before taking his post, as new Consul General in New York, Minister Talò had already a distinguished career with important positions both in Italy and abroad.
I must add that since arriving in New York, at the beginning of August, he has been very active meeting several authorities and representatives of leading local organizations and establishing important relations.
Francesco was born in La Spezia. He completed his studies in Rome where, in 1982, obtained a degree in Law –Summa cum Laude– at La Sapienza University.
He started his diplomatic career in 1984 in the Press Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1987 to 1991 he was assigned to the embassy in Tokyo & from1991to 1995to the embassy in Bonn. He returned to Rome with the title of Consigliere di Legazione and, from 1995 to 1998, was part of the Delegation established to organize the Italian Presidency of the European Union.
From 1998 to 2002 he was at Permanent Mission to the U. N. with the rank of Consigliere d’Ambasciata.
From 2002 to 2006 he worked in the Office of the Diplomatic Counselor of the Prime Minister in Rome.
In January 2005 he was promoted Ministro Plenipotenziario and in October 2005 he was appointed Deputy Diplomatic Counselor of the Prime Minister.
From July 2006 to July 2007 he was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Directorate General for the Americasas Head of the South America Desk.
He assumed his post, as Consul General of Italy in New York, on August 3rd. He is also a Cadet Lieutenant in reserve of the Carabinieri and Cav. Ufficiale of the Ordine al Merito della Repubblica.
