Gei lunch with Consul General of Italy In New York, Giuseppe Pastorelli

New York, February 25, 2026- After giving him a few weeks to settle into his new role in New York, we felt it was the right moment to introduce him more fully to the GEI community — a community that has long sought meaningful ways to collaborate with the Consulate and strengthen the ties between Italy and the United States.

Consul General Pastorelli joined the Italian Foreign Service in 1997. Over the course of his distinguished career he has served in Turkey and Hungary, and later in North America — a region he knows particularly well, having previously held the position of Consul General in Boston and Toronto. Most recently, from 2018 to 2025, he served in Rome at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, where he was responsible for promoting Italy abroad. His professional path reflects a deep commitment to public service and to strengthening Italy’s presence on the international stage.

During our conversation, revisiting the key stages of his career also allowed us to reflect on several important moments in recent international history. He shared with us his priorities for this new mandate in New York and his vision for further strengthening the promotion of the Italian “Sistema Paese,” reinforcing the many institutional, economic, and cultural ties that connect Italy and the United States.
