GEI Lunch with Lorenzo Bini Smaghi
New York, October 15, 2025- Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, former central banker, author, and Chairman of Société Générale, was guest speaker at the GEI Luncheon in New York.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Dr. Bini Smaghi addressed the major economic and political challenges of our time, from President Trump’s policies at the White House and tensions with the Federal Reserve, to the disruptions in global trade, including new tariffs on pasta imports.
Before joining Société Générale, Dr. Bini Smaghi, an internationally renowned economist, worked extensively in the Research Department of the Bank of Italy in Rome, starting in the early 1980s. He later served as Director General for International Financial Relations at the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance. Between 2005 and 2011, he was a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, responsible for international economics. He has also published widely on international monetary and financial issues.
