Dr. Antonio D’Amato is the President of Confindustria, the Confederation of Italian Industry.
Dr. D’Amato was born in Naples, Italy in 1957 and holds a degree in Law from the University of Naples “Federico II” (1980).
He started his entrepreneurial life in 1979 by taking on the leadership of Cartoprint of Milano, a company of the Finseda Group, and subsequently additional responsibilities within the same Group”.
In 1991 he became President of the Finseda Group.
Finseda is leader in Europe for the production of food packaging with plants in Italy (Naples, Bologna, Milano), Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom and Portugal. The Group has about 1.600 employees.
Since 1986 Mr. D’Amato has been a Member of the Board of Directors of Confindustria. From 1986 to 1990 he was been President of the Young Industrials and Vice President of Confindustria.
From 1996 to 1999 he was Counselor of Confindustria in charge of the problems of South Italy.
From 1999 to May 2000 he was President of the Union of Industrialists of the Province of Naples.
In May 2000 he was elected President of Confindustria, the Confederation of the Italian Industry.
In August 2000 Dr. D’Amato became also Vice President of UNICE (The Confederation of the European Employers Association) and, as of November 2000, Member of CNEL.
In July 2001 he was appointed President of the LUISS University in Rome (one of the most important private Italian university).
Last Wednesday in Boston, Franco Modigliani said : “Finally we have an Italian who speaks clearly, directly and decisively. I congratulate Confindustria to have selected such a good president”.
