New York, November 15, 2024- In light of the electoral results on November 5th, which confirmed Donald Trump’s decisive victory, Mario Platero, president of GEI, had a conversation with Antonio Merlo—a distinguished political economist and Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science at New York University. They discussed how the political landscape is likely to evolve dramatically in the future and examined the potential economic impacts of the policies the new administration is set to implement from day one. The discussion touched on the implications of these policies for the Transatlantic relationship, particularly trade with Europe, inflation, and regulation from both antitrust and compliance perspectives. They also explored potential ways to enhance Italy’s contribution to NATO, immigration policies in relation to the labor market, and other critical topics. Additionally, Platero and Merlo went into the global market implications, including the independence of the Federal Reserve and currency stability.
