GEI honored Paolo Scaroni, Chief Executive Officer of ENI, SpA with the GEI Award on May 12, 2006. The GEI Award reception, luncheon and awards ceremony was held in the Grand Ballroom of the prestigious Pierre Hotel in New York City.
The award was presented by Lucio Caputo, president of Gruppo Esponenti Italiani (GEI), in recognition of Dr. Scaroni’s role in strengthening the industrial ties between Italy and the United States.
Eni S.p.A., the company Dr. Scaroni has led since May 2005, is an immense multinational oil and gas enterprise with operations in 70 countries, employing more than 71,500 people and generating sales of €74 billion ($89.9 billion) in 2005.
One of the world’s leading oil enterprises, Eni’s operations include gasoline and diesel fuel; natural gas; electrical power generating, engineering and construction; and petrochemicals.
Helped by the rise in the oil prices, Dr. Scaroni reported that the Eni group’s net 2005 profit had risen by 24 percent to a record €8.8 billion ($10.47 billion). Operating profit rose by 35.7 percent over 2004 to €16.83 billion. The record 2005 sales of €74 billion represented a 28 percent increase over 2004.
